Meet Karen LaFace, M.D.
Dr. LaFace is a board certified Family Physician. She graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Ohio State University, obtained her MD degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where she was a 21st Century Medical Scholar, and completed the Residency Program in Family Medicine at Brown University.
Dr. LaFace has been providing medical care in Ithaca and the surrounding areas since 1999. She was inspired to create Women’s Care to provide comprehensive, holistic health care to women. She has interests and expertise in nutrition, preventive medicine, women’s health, and hormonal issues that affect women. Her goal is to discover the cause of a patient’s problems rather than to simply alleviate symptoms with medications or other treatments. She believes that all aspects of health: physical, emotional and spiritual, are important. She is trained in western medicine, but is open to incorporating safe, proven alternative therapies into her practice. Her patients are her partners in their own health care.
She is a teacher of Cornell graduate and medical students and a clinical co-director of the Post- Baccalaureate Program in Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University. She is a member of the medical staff of Cayuga Medical Center and a Clinical Instructor of Family Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. LaFace has travelled as a physician with the United States diving team for national and international competitions.
She lives in Ithaca, New York, with her husband, Dr. Andrew Getzin, and their three children. As a springboard and platform diver Dr. LaFace was a member of the United States Diving Team for over ten years, her last competition being the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, where she placed 9th on three meter springboard. She enjoys running and triathlons. Her favorite activities of late are running on Finger Lakes trails and swimming in Cayuga Lake or Six Mile Creek.
